The sailing club's Junior Sail Training section runs courses each year for sailors between the ages of 8 and 16 using our fleet of sailing dinghies.
RYA Training Centre Status
Our recognition as a RYA Training Centre means we're inspected annually to ensure that we maintain high standards of tuition, equipment and safety.
Sailors are taught by qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors to the standards required by the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.
Our centre principle is Bob Hindmarsh and full details of RYA recognition can be found on the RYA website.
Our Equipment
JST courses use the club's fleet of 3 Laser Picos, 3 RS Q'bas, 1 RS Tera, 6 Oppie dinghies for younger sailors and 3 Fevas for more advanced training. The club's fleet of four powerboats is also used to provide safety cover.
The sailing club quay also houses equipment for shorebased teaching.
TEAM FEVA
The Club has 3 RS Fevas to introduce more advanced training for our sailors who have completed their RYA Level 4 in the 11-16 age group. The Team are trained by various RYA Race Coaches, host Open Meetings, organised by Roseland Paddle and Sail, and attend various regattas, including the RYA 'Feva Frenzy' at Stithians Lake.

Volvo Champion Club Award
Sarah Ayton, double Olympic Gold medallist presented St Mawes Sailing Club Team Feva with its Volvo Champion Club award at our local Volvo dealer in Truro. The award was received by lead coach Tom Bray and 2 of the original team members Kerry Holbrook and Elliot Wilkinson.
Before the presentation Sarah talked about her career in sailing and her Olympic success winning Gold in Athens as crew to Shirley Robertson in the Yngling, and then winning Gold again in Beijing as helm in the Yngling. After the presentation the Team had the chance to talk to Sarah, and to hold her Gold medal!

OUR Junior Sailors enjoy success at local, National and International level.
Locally, in Picos and Fevas they participate in village regattas, the Cornwall Schools Regatta, Falmouth Dinghy Week and our very own Junior Race Week.

Most of our young sailors are very happy to be sailing in the creek or the bay here in beautiful St Mawes!
