Below are some things to remember before going afloat:
- Weather Forecast
- Tide Prediction
- Buoyancy Aid or Lifejacket
- Method of Communication
- Safety Equipment (e.g. bailer, paddle, whistle etc)
- Tell a responsible adult the following:
- Where you are going
- When you will be back
- Number of people onboard
- Description of boat
- Aim to return well before dusk/sunset.
Things to remember if you get into difficulty:
- Stay with the boat and attract attention
- Contact the Coastguard on 999 or VHF Channel 16
If you see someone else in difficulty:
- Contact the Coastguard on 999 or VHF Channel 16
- Remember that attempting a rescue is likely to put you in danger
