Shrimpers

Class Information
In June we hold our Shrimper Owners Shrimper Fun Week on the Fal.
See the Class Association for the SOA South West Falmouth calendar, BBQs, dinners, DIY lunches, and creek crawls. There is something for everyone.
Our racing fleet will be taking part in all the Village Regattas, Club racing at Flushing, Mylor and St Mawes. During Falmouth Week our class also holds a dinner and a boat trip for the end of week prizegiving.
Out of season we enjoy a monthly Sunday lunch together, and we have been known to make a block booking at the Hall for Cornwall. Shrimper Owners are a social lot, anything for a good party. .

Richard SalisburyAbout Shrimpers
The Shrimper was designed in 1978, and over 1000 boats have now been built at Rock in Cornwall. Demand continues to be strong both for new and second hand boats. The 19′ gaff-rigged Cornish Shrimper with its lifting centreplate is an ideal boat for the Carrick Roads due to its shallow draft, allowing sailors to explore the creeks on high spring tides as far as Trethem, Ruan Lanihorne, Tresillian and even Truro.
A sail over to Helford or to Fowey is well within reach and the cabin facilities allow for overnight stays. It is easy to reef and so allows comfortable sailing in all winds. There are now around 100 Shrimpers in the Carrick Roads and Helford areas. Most Shrimper owners are members of the Shrimper Owners Association, and there is an active local programme organised by them in addition to the racing and cruising organised by St Mawes Sailing Club.
