We strongly recommend a wetsuit, waterproof top, hat, sun-cream and footwear (wetsuit boots, sandals or old trainers). We provide buoyancy aids but if you have your own you are welcome to use it. Wetsuits are available to hire from Bob Warren at Roseland Paddle & Sail (07970 926409). Sailors who aren't properly dressed won't be allowed on the water.
In a bag, you may wish to bring a bottle of water and a small snack, a towel and change of clothes (there is a very small changing area and shower), please bring your RYA log book if you have one. If you are attending a full day course bring a packed lunch.
If you have completed all the necessary syllabus points listed in the logbook and your instructor judges you competent enough for that certificate, you will be presented with the relevant RYA certificate. Attending a course is no guarantee of certification as your progress will depend on how well you have kept up your skills and how hard you work during your course. Adverse weather conditions may prevent enough practical sessions being run to cover all syllabus points.

If you do not have access to a boat, we do have the club boats available for existing members, however there is a limited number of boats and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Your own dinghy will need to be insured for club racing.
You can let us know who you prefer to sail with, however particularly with club boats we may need to allocate sailors to particular boats.
Yes
No, we have various roles that need covering by parents to make this event viable. As well as helpers with Power boat and Safety boat licences to help on the water, we have many land based roles for those with no or little experience. Helping launch boats and tidy up trailers, signing people on, helping at the beach, and spotting in the race office. It is a lovely event for the whole family to get involved.
Registration takes place at the Club house 10am on Sunday 18th August followed by a briefing. If you have your own boat please bring your sail number and confirmation of dinghy insurance.
Racing takes place every morning from Monday to Friday, sign on at the Quay from 9am each morning. Racing finishes by about 12.
There is an informal Prize giving and BBQ on the Harbour quay on Friday evening (weather permitting). Small prizes bring your own portable BBQ and food.
We would discourage you from remaining at the quay once the course has started as there is limited space. However you are always welcome to watch proceedings. Dependant on weather conditions sailing will take place around St Mawes harbour or up towards Percuil, if you are afloat, please keep well away from the coaching area and leave any rescue processes to the designated safety boats and crew.
Please be aware that in the past, we have found that parents in close proximity to a group (either on a beach or on the water) can have an adverse effect on the group which is unfair on the other members of the group so please give the group sufficient space.
