Week Courses
Our week long sail training courses are for novices and upwards, aged 8 plus. Courses cover RYA Stages 1-4 and Advanced Dinghy sailing. The following courses are available:

- Advanced Day Sailing & Seamanship

AM Beginners & Improvers
Sailing course for novices and upwards, aged 8 plus. Children will be working towards their RYA Stages 1 to 2.
Stage 1
A basic understanding of how a boat sails, with some experience of steering and handling the boat.
Stage 2
A range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor. Skills learnt include; launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing skills, rope work and collision avoidance.
Sailing is undertaken in either Hartley 10s or the Laser Pico provided by the Club.

AM Intermediate
Sailing course for RYA Stage 2 and up. Children will be working towards their RYA Stages 3 or 4.
Sailing in Pico dinghies provided by the Club. Suitable for those who have obtained Stage 2 and have some recent time on water.
Stage 3
Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory
Stage 4
Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats, recovering a man overboard. Sailing as both crew and helm.

Advanced Sailing Spinnakers
Everything you need to know about sailing with conventional or asymmetric spinnakers. This course is run on the week from 3rd July 7th July, 10th 14th July and 7th 11th August in the MORNING and on the 17th 21st July in the AFTERNOON.
Teaching is primarily in two person boats with spinnakers, sailing either the RS Feva or the Hartley 12.
How to rig the boat, gybe and recover one type of spinnaker, either conventional or asymmetric. How to sail the best possible course downwind
This course is suitable for those with RYA Stage 4 and are competent in boat handling and have had recent time on the water.

Advanced Start Racing
An introduction to dinghy racing. A course to learn the skills to start club racing. This is run in the AFTERNOONS.
Suitable for those with RYA Stage 4 and sailing with Spinnakers and who are experienced in sailing in strong winds.
All the skills required to start club racing, including how to maximise boat speed and outwit your opponents. The course will be run in club Hartley 12s, RS Fevas or Laser 4.7s.

Advanced Day Sailing/Seamanship
Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising, how to handle a boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat. This is a MORNING course held on 29th May- 2nd June, 17th-21st July, 24th-28th July and 31st July to 4th August.
This course is suitable for those with RYA Stage 4 and are competent in boat handling and have had recent time on the water.
Advanced Day sailing
Preparing and planning for a day cruise, pilotage and decision making including adverse conditions
Seamanship
Launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances, stopping, reducing sail, recovering a man overboard, anchoring
